Future or Last Resort?
Today, I tackle one of the most popularized statements around, “The children are our future”.
Now, I’m not saying there aren’t people who do believe this statement. Neither, am I stating there are not any whose very lives are tailored around this statement. However, I am addressing the context in which this statement is often used in my opinion and those who’ve had little to do with this being so positively. That being said, lets take a look at one way this statement can be viewed and remind ourselves to closely examine and clarify our reasons for sharing this expression.

The following is a way I’ve often heard that statement, and how it can come across.

As we work to remove ourselves from the lines amongst which we’ve labored and wrestled, we can only began to take on the children. Unsatisfied alike, let us teach the children our path of wrong and right, so that they may hold to a higher standard of living, examination, correction, and assembly to supply for themselves. We tried. Hey people we’ve gotten it wrong, the children are NOW our future. Let us now help them adjust to what it means to bear the weight of the world on their shoulders. Let us speak of our dreams often in hopes they pursue them, and and not their own alone. If we persuade and hype them enough, maybe they will desire to do both and succeed.

We no longer have a future, our future is done! Quite frankly, our future was done long ago. It seems we’re living our future now, but it was good while it lasted. Having experienced the highs and the lows of it all, I’d say it’s time to throw in the towel and shift all the resources we have left. I’m sure they can appreciate if we institute some systems for them before we bow out, because they will need them in due time. (Whether or not they believe it.) Our children, and what ever they can come up with, are whats left. If not, everyone will be in the same predicaments years from now. I encourage you to do the best you can with the children we have left.

Would you not agree that it would be wise to take the time and show our young sisters and brothers more untainted interest? After all, there’s no telling what they will do to us, even for us. God forbid they are forced with a choice to get rid of us, they just may take it. Listen! For our sake we should make sure they aren’t forced with that choice. Young people don’t know what it means to take care of the elderly, neither are they trained. The heart of a youth is limited, and it hasn’t become apparent to them that you stop being human after 30. Although, they can be very bright and loving sometimes, they are still incapable of achieving and maintaining success. We must continue w/ great reserve to support the endeavors of our youth, after all the children are our future.
